Ok I did a no no just to help me learn this stuff. When I bottled the first batch of beer, I had 51 bottles. I put 48 up to carb ( 3 weeks @ 70 degrees......3 weeks @ 70 degrees.....) I stuck the other 3 in the back of the fridge and opened one just now. Even with going right from the bottler to the fridge I got a little "pssst" when I opened it. Other than being flat it is AWESOME! Not one speck of sediment, and even my son tasted it and said it was a lot like guinness. Now I can't wait for it to get done!!!!!

So when did you bottle the batch? Are the ones you kept warm awesome and carbonated? Just curious what your trying to determine here.

Haven't tried one of the 48. Just curious to see if it would carb cold. Only been in bottles a few days. Won't open another until I open the warm ones ( after chilling) will leave the other two in the fridge a while.

I vaguely remember once opening a bottle within like an hour after bottling. I can't exactly remember why. I think the cap didn't look like it crimped properly or something so I wanted to re-cap it. Anyway, the point is that when I opened it, it gave the "pssst" sound, but obviously the beer was completely flat. Somehow a little pressure immediately built up in the neck of the bottle right after filling. The point is that it is highly unlikely the beer in the fridge will ever carbonate and the sound you got when you opened it doesn't necessarily suggest otherwise, unless you've got a yeast strain that is active in very cold temps. We know enough about how yeast behave to know that refrigerator temps will essentially make them go dormant. But hey, I'm all for experimenting so have a blast. :)

Me personally I would rather have 51 perfectly carbed and conditioned bottles of beer then 48 and three that I snuck and ended up being flat.

I know you're excited, I understand....but to me I much rather prefer the end product than the intermediate one.

Go talk to Joe Mama...He once was a beer pedophile himself, but learned after guzzling the whole batch green. :D

I have a feeling that you are gonna be one of the keepers here. You got the bug!!!:mug:

Can I take the remaining two out of the fridge? Or is the yeast done?

Dude, I would take them out, and put them back with the other beers. If you have them in the fridge they will take forever to carb and condition..yeast go dormant and flocculate out in the fridge...if they are asleep, they are not producing co2, and conditining your beer.

In fact I would give tose two a little shake to get the yeast back into solution..I would wait til tommorrow though, once they come out of dormancy as they get to room temp.

Haven't you read my carb and conditioning blog yet?

Revvy's Blog, Of Patience and Bottle Conditioning.

So where in Ohio are you? Do you get up to the Detroit area at all?

Live in sidney. Between lima and dayton right on 75.
Nope don't go to michigan at all. Yep I got the bug. Don't like the amount of beer I been drinking though. Only a couple a night but almost every night. Alcoholism is rampant in my family on both sides. More than one literally drinking themselves to death. Anyway I digress. I am gathering stuff to do a 10 gallon AG batch. Invite a couple of buddys up and let er rip. Wanna try the double chocolate oatmeal stout. .......BTW anyone ever try a peanut butter beer( requested by my son)?

There are a couple of good thread s on using peanut butter in a beer..there's some things you need to do to get rid of the il on the Peanut butter...I swear one of the better threads from way back popped up today...

Here search on these. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/search.php?searchid=5048098&pp=25

I did an advance search of peanut butter looking at titles only and sortign as threads istead of posts.

But look at them withing the next few minutes..search links expire quickly...look for ones in the recipe sectioon or with the most posts in the thread....
