After having issue with the crush at my LHBS I want to mill my own grain. I am torn between the MM3 and the MM2 with 2 inch rollers. Cost isn't an issue, they are the same price. I am a heavy duty diesel mechanic so setting gap with feeler gauges isn't an issue to me. Also I am not a fan of conditioning grain if I don't have to.

I am also torn between purchasing the same mills. Everything I've read leads me towards getting the mm2 2.0. I am also interested in any feedback.

I've seen and heard of problems keeping the third roller operating. My LHBS had a 3-roller mill and abandoned it. For less trouble, the MM 2-2 is the way to go. I have one and after I converted it to the new style adjustment knobs, it has been rock solid. Big rollers are the way to go.

I went with MM2 2.0 with 2" rollers. I heard stories about the third roller that made me wonder whether or not it would be problematic. I just went with the 2 roller but did go for the larger rollers. The thing is rock solid.

I have a 2 roller MM....... I have it set to .035 right now (have actually been gradually widening the gap a bit as I dial it in). It produces a great crush, with husk material largely in tact, in one pass and I have been getting 83-85% eff. For the life of me, I can't think of a way a third roller would produce a better crush than I am currently getting.

The only thing I don't like about it is the thumb screws that hold the rollers in place. It is not a big deal, but I have found you have to pay attention that they are tight and don't move on you.

In terms of the comments about the third roller: I have milled a lot of grain with a 3-roller. It does sometimes fail to feed the grain through the rollers. All it takes is a slight twist of the 3rd roller and you are off. Not the safest thing to do though. I own and use a MM2-2.0. If you go with a 2 roller I think the upgrade to 2" rollers is a must-do. I really like the crush of my 2-roller mill but a properly setup 3-roller will also crush very well.

I've been using the MM@ 2.0 with the hardened rollers for a couple years. I gap it at 0.42". I have never had a problem with it and the crush is perfect. No conditionong for me either.
Works great and less moving parts...no brainer.

Great to see some input. I realized thought that my home garage drill is 3/8" not 1/2" so I will likely be going with the mm3
