Well, just got done with an extract American Wheat and I used my old Brewsmith numbers for boiloff and which seem to have worked in the past but no dice. Ended up with too much wort after boil.

OG target = 1.048
OG measured after chilled to 68* = 1.042

Already added it to the fermentor, yeast as well. Should I still consider a DME addition or skip it?

I wouldn't worry about .006 difference; the larger impact on flavor and body is going to be how efficient your mash was anyways. The extra 3/4% of ABV might be noticeable if youre actively looking for differences, but won't be a huge deal. And adjusting the G now (either by adding unsanitized DME [not advised, since both unsanitary and wont mix in well] or by making a high-gravity syrup to add in [not advisable, since it can have a big impact on flavor]) would likely have a much larger impact on flavor than those .006 points.

Sad thing is, it was an extract session, should have been a shoe in for OG. But...I just noticed I jacked up my Beersmith report. Added my AG equipment accidentally which evidently calculated for extra loss to my non-existent mash tun (today anyway) so I started with too much water.

Should have easily noticed that but full boils are kind of a pain in Beersmith. Maybe there's a better way, but just now, I ended up making a new equip for 10.5 gallon pot w/ half gallon per hour evap rate to be used for full boil/extract situations as opposed to my custom 10.5 gallon pot with cooler. Not so oddly, the OG came out to exactly what I got. :cross:

Live and learn, once again. One of these days I'll account for all these anomolies...naw, I probably won't. :D

Now that I at least figured that out, I will indeed RDWHAHB. :mug:
