So, i have a co worker trying to give me a small mini fridge... not the normal dorm sized one, but one of the 1/2 sized ish ones.
so instead of saying no and them tossing it, i'm wondering how well this would work.

Take the mini fridge apart, keep the compressor and the freezer section.
Take the freezer section and bend it around a sanke keg.
Wrap the sanke keg with insulation and put a thermowell in fermenter and run it off of a controller? how well do you think it would keep up if well insulated?

Re-bending the cooling coils is risky business. You're more likely to break it. I'd recommend considering using it to keep a reservoir(I.e. Sealed bucket or something) of coolant cold and use separate plumbing and pump to wrap and cool the sanke by recirculating through the reservoir.

i'd do that, but i already have the other parts and very limited cash currently. Would use it for something like this http://www.gotta-brew.com/standard-kit/

I ferment in a chest freezer though, was more thinking an easier way to ferment the odd 10g batch :mug: but alas, the extra sankes i have will not fit into the chest freezer :(

I am on and off working on an outdoor beer dispenser using a 55 gallon stainless barrel with cooling supplied by a mini fridge.
Currently I am at this stage.

that kinda looks like what i'm planning on. Just kinda bend the freezer part at a slight bend to match the keg, wrap the whole thing with insulation and test it from there.
Although, i think when i try i'm going to do a saison so incase temp control doesn't work perfectly, i'll still "work" and i wont waste beer.
