Been drinking this cheap 5.9% beer for years. Recently 2 weeks straight it started tasting like watered down Pepsi aftertaste.

Now I haven't drank pop in over 5 years so that is weird in itself, but I guess you never forget the taste of pop even when you quit drinking it. Have my taste buds changed, is Milwaukee shipping some bad batches of beer, tweaked recipe, or what?

Very weird.

Well, lets start with the basics. Have you been drinking full flavored, hoppy beer lately?

I usually drink 4 crappy beers light MBIce, followed by a quality beer in a bottle like Schlafly Dry Hopped APA. For over a year now. This taste on the crappy beer is just recent.

Same thing here. I drink craft ales till bills get paid, etc. Being retired is rather limiting financially. I then went to MB premium, then MB ice after drinking my favorite,SNPA. Does seem watered down after that. Then when I get used to the ice,it's rather a malty sweetness that I don't 100% care for. But it's ok with vodka when you're limited on funds.
Interestingly,I was chilling the wort from my PM pale ale last tuesday,& started on the 24oz bud light my son picked up for me while I was busy brewin. Never again. It tasted like colored water, litterally, compared to the MB premium or ice. That was an eye-openning comparison that got me to wondering why I drank that watery stuff for so long?...

Lol this is funny. My girlfriend just recently had her epiphany on beer flavors.
"I don't like hoppy stuff but this ones good." (Dogfish Head 60 min IPA)
"Sounds like you like hoppy beers then."

My friend calls it "appreciation beer" when we run out of homebrew and have to buy the cheap stuff.

Sounds like a guy I talked to recently.. He said the same thing - "I don't really like hoppy beers. I do like Racer 5 and Pliny the Elder". I poured him a bottle of my 16% IIPA with 24 ounces of hops in a 5 gallon batch, he says "This is good! Is there anyway you'd let me take a bottle with me?"

Hahaha sounds like he likes hoppy beers too. I'm always try and tell people that you just gotta taste around and you WILL eventually find a craft brew you like, which is true but it also helps them develop that palette and grow an appreciation for good beer. My dad for example only drank michelob ultra till I brought over a brew from Unibrau and my own Dubbel. His wife caught him with a pack of Sam Adams and he only shrugged. Lol.

Haha...

two nights ago My wife and I went to the GABF... The next day at lunch she had a bud light... she looks at me and said "you're right, bud light does suck"

That building a palette gets expense when the wife does it. Worth it though :mug:

No doubt i love APA's. Something about Schlafly Dry Hopped APA, not that ****ty caramel sweet flavor I've tasted in other APA's. Must be the grains they use or they hop the **** out of it. It's like eating a grapefruit and I love grapefruit. Recently I've become worried about estrogen and hops, cuz I'm a man and I like my T. But hops taste so damn good. E & Hops, double-edged sword???!!! Worthy of another post topic. Posting now.

Yeah. A German friend of mine reckoned that in Germany only women harvest hops because of the estrogen levels making it not a good idea for men to do it, unless they want big, man-*******.:D
