I got out for 4 months before I realized I had made a mistake. After contacting a prior service recruiter - it took me 8 more months to get my commission back. Now I'm just a reserve bum/house husband. When I'm not doing the reserve gig - I'm a full time dependent (my wife's in the Navy).

Man I should have gone that route! Sit around the house and brew all day... that would be awesome!

I was working as a software engineer at Pax River, but I'm in between jobs right now. So yeah, I pretty much just brew all day. I think my wife feels a little guilty, as I was over 10 and had some incredible orders lined up. However, those orders would have been three more years of geo-baching. She still owed the Navy for her lat-move, so I got out. She spoils me. So far, I've paid for one set of ingredients and the kegging setup. She's paid for everything else. And she doesn't even like beer!

How long is/was that drive to Pax river? There were a few jobs in Pax river and Lexington Park I was interested in, but thats a freaking haul.

She's a SWO turned IW Officer. She's got orders back to sea on a Phibron staff and is really excited. Doesn't make sense to me...

How long is/was that drive to Pax river?

From Odenton to Lexington Park was 1 1/2 hours one way. It wasn't too bad - I justified it this way - it was mostly country roads with very little traffic. The driving was very low stress. If I had to commute into DC/NOVA - let's just say I tend to get road rage...

I know this thread is all about military members in the home brewing world getting to know one another,

but take a moment today and raise a glass to those who gave it all for our freedom.

Right now I'm remembering:

EO1 Gary Rovinski
HM2 Jamie Jeanke
BU1 Jerry Tharp
KIA Iraq, 2006 Serving with United States Mobile Construction Battalion Twenty Five.

Jamie and Gary were taken as part of a convoy hit by an IED, they were providing security for the movement of materials for construction projects.
Jerry was killed by an IED while on a mission to repair supply routes damaged by other IEDs. My three friends died "just doing thier job" But they will always be heroes in my book. Gary was a husband and father of three, Jamie was a single mom, and Jerry was a loving husband... all of them said "yes" when uncle sam called.
So while the BBQ is rockin, and the good home brew is flowing, don't feel bad for them, feel proud that you live in the greatest country the world has ever known... give them the respect due... raise your glass and celebrate their lives!

So far this tour we've been really lucky. Our battalion is one of the hardest hit in our area of Iraq so I want to send out a thanks that maybe you guys at home can rasie a toast to for us. Thanks to the guys and gals at IMG International and BAE Systems for making the mine resistant armored vehicles we take out on the road every night. Cheeto and I would probably have quite a list to remember here if these new trucks weren't saving so many lives.

Today we remember Tsgt Phillip Myers, USAF EOD, KIA April 4, 2009 while disarming an IED. Phil left behind his wife of 9 years and two young children.

It's not just those that give their life in service that lose everything...
