I assume the has been answered somewhere...

Once your beer is in your primary / secondary, what do you do for the small items for cleaning? I'm talking about your hydrometer and wien theif for samples, etc. Do you keep a bucket of PBW close by, or do you just use soap and water and star san?

After brew day I just clean everything with either soap and water or oxy and put it away. I do all the star San on brew day, just keep a bucket available and everything I need to use that day goes in the bucket until I need it

But what do you do if you want to check the gravity part way through? I also started making wine so i'm looking for tips.

Get yourself a spray bottle and fill it with a star san mixture. Use distilled water as it will keep longer (won't turn cloudy) and simply sanitize any items that will come in contact with your beer (hydrometers, wine thief, air locks, etc.).
