We call it a whole hive mead and its nothing new. In the old days of skep beekeeping they used to kill the bees and scoop everything out, crush and strain the honey or cut out the comb in chunks and use it as is naturally. If you can find some beekeepers around you, they are beekeeping groups everywhere, go to one of their meetings to get some contacts and let them know you want to make a whole hive mead. Beeks sometimes have to trim out errant comb from their hives and this is used a lot by the bees for making drone brood so you can include some of them in your mead, some comb from the brood area with bee bread - that is the way the bees store pollen and capped honey, all of this will have some propolis on it. We just weigh the comb, figure 95% of it is honey so we use that weight tofigure how much volume we are going to get and then using just warm tap water crush up the comb in the water with our hands, that is the fun part. Toss in your yeast and stir everyday. When finished we strain all the wax and bug bits out with a straining bag and rack as normal. WVMJ
