I decided to try all grain after four extract batches,i bought Beersmith tonight and think i may have pieced together an Ipa recipe. From looking at other Ipa recipes this is what i came up with.I'm not sure if I'm going to batch sparge or fly sparge yet, leaning towards fly so far.I have one cooler i could use but might just buy a cooler set that is set up already off e bay.

Anyway,do you think i should run with this or run away from it?

Should i change the Amarillo hops to something else?

You should use whatever hops you like in a beer? Amarillo will work fine for bittering, it's just many of us have a great fondness for the flavor they lend when added later in the boil. Hopping schedules are highly agueable and to personal taste. I might be tempted to switch your Amarillo and Centennial addition, 1 oz Cent 60 min, 1 oz Amarrilo 15 min, add the other 1/2 oz Amarillo to the dry hop schedule, but that is me. Otherwise your grain/crystal/hop ratios look good.

Hops Schmops. Do what you think sounds good and adjust next time if you need to.
I would suggest basing your recipe on 70% efficiency and having some DME around for good measure at least for the first couple batches or until you find out what your efficiency is going to be with your system.

+1 on using 70% efficiency as your starting point. Until you get your brewing process dialed in, its best to be a little conservative.

I like the recipe. I'm assuming that your are making a one liter starter, not sure what the 125 ml is referring to.

You may need to mash longer than 60 minutes--do a conversion test to ensure that you are fully converted before you mash out.

43 calories per pint !! that can't be right..?

Indeed, it isn't. That's just Beersmith. It measures the calories per pint by the values in "Measured OG" and "Measured FG." The defaults for those fields, respectively, are 1.010 and 1.005 giving 43 calories per pint. As far as I can tell, Beersmith doesn't provide a projected calories per pint value.

EDIT: If you plug in the estimated values given in his recipe you get 308 calories per pint - a much more sensible value :)

My $0.02

You could sub the .5 crystal 20 & .5 crystal 60 to 1lb of crystal 40

I like a nice bitterness bite to my IPA's so like previous poster have stated, perhaps a higher AA% hop at 60 such as subbing in centinnial or nugget at 60 and saving your Amarillo for 15 or 5 minute addition.

I also use dry yeast for IPA's due to the lower cost and no taste difference, but again, personal pref...

I find that more crystal is better, but that may just be me.

Why is the measured gravity so far from the Est OG?

Ok,Thanks guys.I will take all this in to consideration and see what i come up with.
