Anyone know what the maximum temperature is for an Ale Pail? I want to pour hot wort onto a frozen gallon of spring water but I don't want to melt or warp the plastic bucket.
Not sure on the actual Max temp, but I use the boiling wort onto frozen spring water method and have had no problems. Just make sure to keep the splashing to a minimum until the wort cools, then aerate.
Yeah, I siphoned from the brewpot onto the ice to reduce splashing. I let the wort cool for a little while before siphoning, I siphoned at about 135 F.
Do most people cool the wort before adding to the cold water? And, once it is added and then cooled, you airate right before pitching the yeast? I take it you just shake it up?
The original method for adding the wort to your ale pail is by flash cooling it in a bath or sink full of cold water and ice. Then you add it to the cooled water in your Ale pail. Once you have added it to the pail you stir it up a lot, splashing it around to get a lot of air in it.
