Hi,

Having some issues getting an accurate reading on my dial thermometer on my 20 gallon mega pot mash tun. Issue has been present since brewing on my new setup the past two brews.

The thermometer seems to get "stuck" at a temperature. I am using direct fire setup and stirring very well after heating. Yesterday when brewing my thermometer read 148 degrees, but when checking with other thermometer, top of mash read 160 and exiting on Vorlauf was 180. Has anyone else had this issue with dial mash thermometers? Can't seem to wrap my head around it.

FYI, the dial thermometer did not need calibration after testing it after brewing.

Fixed-mount thermometers on MLTs are of limited use after dough-in imo, especially in a non-recirculating mash - and most recirculating systems have their own temperature probe in the wort stream.

I never bothered putting one on my 10g Rubbermaid and used a 2 foot long Thermoworks handheld digital to check for hot/cold spots. I have one on my Blingmann kettle but again once the malt hits the strike water that's pretty much the end of its day...

Cheers!

That's really helpful, had a feeling that was the case. Was actually looking at the 24" thermoworks last night...might just have to pick that up before my next brew.

Thanks a lot!
