Today, I bottled a black hop ale, a.k.a black ipa, but we won't get in to that :) Last second, I decided to prime with maple syrup. I've done it before with 3/4 cup in 5 gallons and had pretty good luck, I'd say medium carbonation. I did the same today, but forgot that I only had 4 gallons of beer. I've been researching my mistake all night and just can't find consistent information that suggests bottled bombs will incur. My final gravity was 1012. I'm sure fermentation was done as I took two measurements a week apart and they were the same. I've read people have used up to 1.25 cups (in 5 gallons) of maple syrup without any problems. I'm thinking I'm ok. I will be testing once a week for Carb levels. If they are high after one week, should I gently pry open and reseal with the same cap? Would i have to do this multiple times? I've never really had this issue before.
