Hi all,

I am new to brewing and only have the set-up for one gallon. If I purchase a 5-gallon recipe, can I divide everything by 5 and brew with the same results? Thanks for any tips on this. It just seems that most recipe kits come in 5-gallon batches.

Fortunately, companies are starting to offer 1 gallon kits for those of us that brew 1 gallon batches. That being said, i have successfully divided up 5 gallon kits into smaller batches (two 2.5 gallon batches the last time, if I remember correctly.) Happy brewing!

Just keep in mind that your grain bill ratios will be off if they grind it all up and throw it into one bag.

This was aggravating enough for me to start visiting my LHBS and getting the specific grains for the size batch I’m interested in. Or, looking at the kit recipe, doing the math and ordering ingredients as needed for the batch size.
