Loud fermenting room

I have four batches fermenting in my garage at the moment. I know it's said to ferment in a dark, quite area. But I have a loud rock tumbler running in the garage, and also listen to a stereo when hanging outside or while in the garage. Does all this noise really effect the yeast in anyway? Not too concerned, just curious.

Haha, I can see Enya for Barley Wines and Imperials, but I believe my IPA, Amer. Wheat and Kolsch would like classic rock, blues and rock. So maybe I'm on the right track???

I prefer to yell encouraging battle cries to my yeast at pitching time.

Yoop, you're right. I looked at my instructions and book and it only states "dark" room. I must of had nightmares regarding all the noise in the garage while the fermentation has been going on. You have to admit though, people will be scratching their head when they read my thread title.

Haha! Well, that makes me think that the yeast will be happy just knowing how much your worried about them.

Even a "dark" room isn't that important- just keep the carboys covered with a dark blanket or t-shirt and they'll be fine even in a place with lots of light. Light can skunk beer very quickly!

Maybe we can find a study to see which music yeast will attenuate better with? Classical vs metal vs country...I will add it to the to do list

Well, three are in Ale Pails and the Amer. Wheat is in a 6 gallon BB with a plastic black bag over it. So I am giving my share of love.

I was just having that discussion a few weeks ago with another brewer. Some people believe their plants grow better with certain music, or that music keeps their pet bird, or fish or whatever happier.

Yeast is a living organism. We were wondering if anyone ever did a study on yeast performance with music. Maybe some Beatles for an ESB, some Creedance Clearwater for an APA, some Acid Rock for a sour, bagpipes for a Scottish etc

for clearing up your beer just put some country on... they will surely fall asleep and fall out of your beer and head to bed.....
