So I made one of my first batches of sweet grape juice wine and measured it at 13%. When I racked it 3 weeks later it only measured about 3%. What could cause the loss of 10%?

Your abv is calculated by taking your original gravity and minus your final gravity, which would make the wine 10%. Your measuring the amount of the sugars the yeast eats which is what calculatea abv

Snag an app like FermCalc for ur phone -- has lots of helpful homebrewing calculations [emoji111]

How can I delete this thread?
I suppose a moderator could do this for you, but don't delete it if you're embarrassed by the question. You might be surprised how many similar posts there are out there. If your thread, which is plainly asked by you and simply answered by ratinator answers someone else's question, then it's well served.

Thanks, I’ll look for that app.

And yes I feel like an idiot when I ask a question that might seem simple.

There is no such thing as a stupid question and what is "simple" to some one with lots of effective experience may be incredibly obscure to, or misunderstood by a novice. How long did it take humans to understand that yeast is an organism and that it is fermenting sugars in grains and fruit and honey? If 200 years ago you had asked what ferments grape juice you may have been told it's the container that is special or it's something in the air or it's the stirring tool. And you might have thought , Of course it is. Silly me. I wish I never asked that question, but the thing is, it's the people who ask such "simple" questions who get others to think harder about what they assumed they knew.
