Losing liquid in my Mash Tun

Just made a mash tun with copper manifold in a 48 Qt Coleman rectangular cooler. I ran a test batch of water through and because the drain is above the manifold there was little over a gallon of water left in the cooler. Is this a problem and if so any suggestions for a fix?

Did you have a hose on the spigot? If that drops lower than the manifold, you should be good.

I'll try that. Thanks. And should the slits in the manifold be facing down or up?

The slits should be down to create a siphon to plug wort out.
