My next brew is going to be a blueberry chocolate stout, but I'm not just going to do chocolate malt. I want a little more of an actual chocolate flavor and I'm not sure what I should use. I've noticed a lot of people use cocoa powder as their chocolate. Is this the best ingredient to use for a good chocolate flavor?

If so should I add it into the boil or rack on top of it?

Any advice would be appreciated.

. . . .Any advice would be appreciated.

DON'T DO IT!!!! Just kidn, I think alot of people use chocolate nibs but I'm not sure where in the process, I've personally never used chocolate in a brew. You could search the recipes section for chocolate, maybe there's something there?:mug:

I have found that you need both chocolate Preferably (Dutched) coco powder and a little vanilla bean, I add the coco to the boil and the vanilla bean to secondary.

My advice would be to use a lot of blueberries. I made a blueberry wheat with 5 lbs of blueberries and I probably could've used more. Since you're making a stout you will need even more if you want that blueberry taste to come through.

I'm of the same mind as above, you'll need to use a ton of blueberries to be able to taste anything through a chocolate stout. You may even have to use blueberry extract.

What about priming with or supplementing some blueberry syrup in the boil?

I guess that's mostly high fructose corn syrup, right? Might not be hard to figure out how much to use.

Yeah, I've got about 16 pints of blueberries. I planned on squishing them so more of the juice will come out. I'll take a look at the JZ recipe. Thanks guys and gals.
