looking for feedback on 2 trellis designs

i've got 2 different ideas for my first attempt at a trellis.

the first will use two 4x4's with a piece of metal conduit connecting each 4x4. the second option will use a single 4x4 with a piece of conduit through the 4x4. the pics below should make sense. this location is prime and will get sun all day. the one concern i do have about the location is that nice looking river birch to the left. every year without fail it gets attacked by japanese beetles and i end up having to treat it with chemical (triazicide etc.) to kill them. i could always cover the hops when i treat the birch, any thoughts ideas? btw, my plan is to plant 2 different types of hops, one on each side. thanks in advance.

I don't think Option 2 will be stable enough so if I have to pick, I'd go with Option 1 - provided your end poles are set good and deep or you attach guide wires.

...and Jap Beetles are a PITA...they love my cascade leaves (I've had to spray my plants in the past)!!!

I'm going to do an option 3. Using two poles spaced closer together. One pole between my 1st and second hop plants, and one between the 3rd and 4th plant. the upper conduit would extend 5 or so feet beyond each upright pole and support the end plants. In between the two poles I would support the middle two plants.

How can you argue with a guy named Hopfarmer? Good eye on the V's I never noticed the upside down ropes.

Can you spray Triazicide directly on the hop plants or would you spray the ground all around the plants? If you spray it on the plants and it gets on the hop cones, how would one get the chemical off before brewing? I don't think I want a Triazicide IPA

Do your neighbors care? As a fellow suburbanite I'm always walking the fine line between "Super Trellis" and "Reasonable Trellis". Last year I put my first year plants on 10'. I was thinking of bumping it up to 11' or 12'.

Hopfarmer suggested 14' and I understand why, my oldest plants grow on the side of my house and reach for the sky. I just don't have the nerve to put up a 14'+ trellis in my backyard.

Anyway, just curious if neighbors are an issue for you.
