Finally bought myself a very large aluminum pot (80 quarts) and I would like to know if anyone has other ideas on how I can condition the inner surface instead of just trying to boil 20 gallons of water in it. This would tank a good part of the propane left in my tank.

I have heard that you can bake it in an oven to do the same thing but with a pot that size it's not practical either. I have notice on my aluminum pot that the area above the water conditions with the steam. Maybe invert the pot over a boiling pot of water on your kitchen stove would work.

I don't understand buying a pot that large and then fretting about how much propane you have to burn using it

condition it, refill your propane and you won't have to worry about running out first brew day with the new pot

The hot steam will condition it as well, boil a few gallons with the lid on.

The aluminum is already oxidized anyway, rdwhahb and cook that huge kettle a bit.

I think this whole aluminum conditioning thing is merely "best practice", not sure you'd notice either way....
