Is light exposure the same enemy to fermenting or bottled cider that it is to beer/hops?

Yes, but not in the same way as beer. Beer gets "skunky" from the hops oils interaction to light. Cider/wine/mead can get "lightstruck" but not skunky. White wines almost always come in clear bottles, but red wines come in colored bottles to help prevent that light struck issue. The color can bleach out, and you can get a funny taste from light damaged cider.

I keep my carboys covered, and my bottles in a cool dark place, whether it's beer, wine, mead or cider.
