How long does liquid malt extract last? Is there any way to lengthen the lifespan (e.g. refrigeration or freezing)?

I have a lidded plastic bucket of wheat extract and want to hold off brewing until my oxygenation kit arrives, but apparently it is back ordered. So, I want to know if I can wait.

Also, if the answer differs by type of extract (that is, pale vs. amber vs. wheat, etc), that would be good to know.

Apologies if this is elsewhere in these forums, but I could not find it.

I keep mine in the freezer, but ...

Last month I made a batch of Quarts of Chaos using two cans of pre-hopped extract that were 6 (that's six) years old that had been stored in a garage. One was a pale and one was dark, but they actually looked the same when we added them. Ale seems ok so far, a little harshness in the bittering, but I think that will work itself out.
