I bought a pack of Brewers Best licorice drops to add to my belgian stout (5 gal batch).
1 pk is 7 pcs = 1oz.
Could anyone recommend a qty of this product to add just a little licorice flavor and aroma?

As I understand it, the drops have replaced the licorice sticks as an easier more manageable format from Brewers Best / LD Carlson.

would love any advice!

I was wanting to do a Licorice Stout as well, I've never seen these, planned on using extract. Where did you find these at?

I’ve used Star Anise in a spiced beer and 1 teaspoon (approximately 1/6 ounce dry weight), added in the last 5 minutes of the boil, was enough to give a noticeable, but not overpowering, licorice flavor to a 5 gallon batch. Anise is the spice which gives licorice it’s distinctive flavor.

Following. Attempted a clone of Kalamazoo stout that is aging in the keg at the moment. Other attempts people posted were all with the sticks, which are roughly 0.7oz. I tried the 1 oz pack in a 10 gallon finished batch.

Good info, thanks for posting that. I brewed on Saturday and added 1 pc, 30 min into a 60 min boil. 5 gallons fermenting now. Hoping it adds some complexity into my "Belgian Stout" that includes roasted grains, C80, Special B.
Adventures In Homebrewing said the licorice drops are less intense than Star Anise or Fennel.

Update -
I’m surprised. Tasting gravity samples, the licorice taste is fairly forward, even with the 1pc that I though would be conservative!
Fermenatation is slowing, but not finished yet. Hoping this will evolve and mellow, given more time...

Update. This is kegged and carbed now. I wound up adding 4oz of roasted barley via steeping it separately and adding it to the fermenter. This was to boost roast flavor, and offset some of the licorice. The flavor is much more balanced now. Not sure how much of that is contributed to mellowing of licorice flavor versus RB addition or carbonation or something else, but I'm liking the result now...

FWIW I didn’t notice much licorice flavor initially from 1 oz in a 10 gallon batch but 8 weeks of storage at 35 F brought it out and smoothed out the flavor. Happy with the result.
