I recall in 08/09 leaving all kinds of RR sours alone due to the price, cases of the bastards. I really knew nothing at that point.

I still know nothing about pretty much any beer outside my immediate comfort zone. Happy that I am clueless on most beer mentioned in this thread.

Would not change that aspect for anything.

K The blowback on White Birch was so bad it's hard to believe they're still an active brewery, but I guess they turned things around..

You guessed wrong. I've had a beer or two that was "decent" from them the last several years but more often than not the beers are mediocre as **** to terrible vomity tasting. I will forever be shocked that someone recently bought the brand and building a new brewery.

When I saw White Birch cans show up in the Chicago market a few years ago I did a double-take. Just assumed they got their **** together if they were getting financing to make big moves like that. My mistake!

Yeah I have no idea what the **** these people are thinking and why they think people want to pay for and drink that garbage.

On this weekend of DL, I remember that **** show that surrounded the Pappy DL from 2010(?).

Now that beer was fantastic.

Getting me in the feels with the 2011 BADL talk. I remember fondly putting together the first Dark Lord Voltron tastkign with dvelcich Gonzoillini MarkIntihar and TalkBeerJesus.

At this point the 2011 Brandy Vanilla DL has usurped the old Oak Aged DL swing-tops as the most desirable/valuable FFF beer. So long as your bottle doesn't explode!

I remember sending the old swingtop bottles of this around the country circa 2005 for the likes of: Dogfish Head 120 and Festina Lente, Speedway Stout(green bottle!), Victory Storm King, Founders KBS, etc..

The Hooker imperial porter was also a top 100 BA Beer around then. Paul Davis knew how to brew great beer back then.

The one beer I never got to track down that was my whale before stepping aside from beer for 5 years... Dark Lord
This beer was absolutely delicious and helped me discover that there could be love for doppelbocks in my heart!

If you see Matacabras will send you all of the Yuengling you can handle for it.

Matacabras hasn't been bottled in 2-3 years. To my vague recollection of talking to Dave at the brewery, he wasn't 100% thrilled with the beer (it was being contract brewed - the setup in the basement of the BrewFarm is basically a glorified homebrew system) & was planning on getting out of the business, so he stopped selling the beer.

That said, if you're ever in the neighborhood, Dave is a brewing genius, & everyone should stop by if the farm happens to be open. I've never had so many "what the hell was he thinking, this looks like a trainwreck" sounding beers that turned out to be excellent. He's got some serious talent.

The OG 2009 was always touted as having like ~20 malts (basically they just emptied a ton of malt bags) so the "recipe" is different. That and it was brewery only, maybe? Someone will have to correct me on that.

Members got one bottle (I believe there was only RS at the time, Hoarders I think started the next year).

It was brewery only and before any society was started (the RS started Jan of 2010). I believe there was a presale prior to the release and any info went out, as I remember passing on them thinking I would grab some once I heard if it was good or not :( . Once the first ticking notes came out before the release the hype was building. Release day was a cluster ****, way more people than allocations. Starting the next year they did the online releases with a pickup party (where my profile pic came from).

I almost moved to Hooksett and was pretty jazzed I was gonna have a local brewery. Until I visited. They were located in an old pool supply store, which I'm pretty sure was still selling hot tubs when I was in there. I spent some stupid amount for a vertical of stouts they aged in Utopias barrels. Hand numbered and so limited! The guy said it's the best beer they've ever made and was so proud of them. All but one was a drain pour and even that one wasn't good. Their Anniversary beers were more expensive then shelf Doesjel at Julio's Liquors...

Anyone remember this turd? I went to some beer store and asked about it and the guy laughed at me saying I should have beer here at 7 am. I finally found one after visiting a few stores.

You gotta strike while the iron's hot. Throwback releases only work for Nike.

They had 13 years to make it again, wonder why they waited so long?

It was ~200 bottles and I think only available at their three brewpubs. I only heard about it because someone made a joking reference to it on a Facebook group.

Tactical Nuclear Penguin is hot garbage. Tastes like a cement mixer poured into an ashtray.
