I was looking at the list wondering if CW still makes Brewhouse Coffee Stout. That beer was delicious (not a whale by any means).
They do, but I think it's seasonal.

I always enjoyed their anniversary stouts as well.

Yep. Saw it on the shelf at my local shop earlier this week.

So I guess it still exists, but maybe it's not a "thing" any more.

I tried so hard to get that beer back in the day but never managed to get it. Coffee stouts were my jam.

Who remembers Block 15 Imagine B1, unlabeled bottle in a box?

Honest to god, last night I moved a bottle of it from my cellar to my fridge for possible consumption this weekend. Fingers crossed it has held up better than the figgy pudding I somewhat recently drain poured that was purchased at the same time.

“Facebook memory” from 7 years ago popped up on my feed today and immediately reminded me of this thread.

Anyone remember the early Mikkeller years? Im talking the likes of BA George in nip bottles before they released black and black hole in all those different barrel treatments. BA George was in that sorta light brown/camo tan colored label. Im pretty sure they have more recently rebrewed it but it looked and tasted nothing like before. I wonder if that was a product of them using a different “host” brewery or what that deal was...**** was that OG good. And while maybe not a “whale” to the community at large, I know myself and others who traded away what was considered whales to get more of them after having it that first time.

Also, those early black bottles before they got distro to the US were among the best and worst beers i ever had from Mikkeller. Both the scotch versions were what I would imagine its like to be drinking your house while its on fire but in liquid form. Whereas the cognac version was just a ******* work of art - 17% abv that went staight to your head.

Getting relatively short shrift in the conversation so far are some of the European breweries who were a big deal beyond Narke and De Struise (Dirty Horse aside there was the Black Damnation line).

Speaking of De Struise...

In my opinion, the black damnation series is what made them skyrocket up my list of breweries id purchase on a regular basis. The old online “yeast shop” orders would get delivered to my door at a fraction of the price for the same bottles sitting on shelves.

I wonder what ever happened between Struise and De Molen? They collaborated (or just blended?) their famed imperial stouts together, called it black damnation and then Struise said FU, this is my series now, we dont need De Molen and henceforth just made the rest with variations of just black albert?

I think the OG black damantion was whaley and maybe even double black to a certain extent but that has been released like 3 times now whereas that first blend of black albert and Hel & Verdo was a one and done in 2010.

Have we talked about those barrel aged De Molen nip bottles? De Molen Hel & Verdoemenis Wild Turkey BA was a hell of a beer and so were a lot of the other ones.

Dem clear glass nips with cute mini labels and dipped in wax so deep it didnt even matter that the glass was clear or green in some cases.

I had many of them care of Jeffo. The wild turk hel and verdo, bat outta hell oak aged, black damnation 666, weer and wind ba barleywine (that one might have been my favorite.)

I got a box full of de molens somewhere and I know there are some gems still left in it including corked and caged 750mls of some obscure **** they made. I should make it a priority to get into them.

Man, look at how ******* bored I am at work today to be humping this thread back 15 pages and posting 4 times.

I almost said yes to that Southampton vert. Then remembered it's ash tray juice.

No doubt that beer is rough when its fresh...almost like a super acrid black IPA but really melds into something special with age. When I went to the releases, id buy at least a case of it to tuck away and not touch for bare minimum a year. I think I have a lonely bottle from ‘08, ‘11 and ‘12 left. Cant even remember the last time I drank one... maybe back when the term “intihar” was coined? I remember drinking each bottle I had out of that years matching IRS fish bowl.

I have a bunch still as well, also thanks to Jeffo .

OG Double Black was so ******* good. Still have a bottle of that. Need to crack it soon.

Oh, Mikkeller Black. I was drinking one at some point 2010-ish when my (now-)wife came in, took a sip, spit it back into the glass, and said "that tastes like I drank gasoline out of an ashtray." I couldn't disagree.

I traded for so many of those De Molen nips. I paid through the nose for a bottle of Ziel & Zaligheid, which I think I ended up reviewing as "this tastes like a sharpie smells".
