I guess this is probably still a whale, but this came up as a "Facebook Memory" today:

My now wife and I went down to San Diego for a border tour with our law school immigration class and turned it into a long weekend. Went to Toro and I had her ask the bartender if they had it. We got it ($55 if I remember correctly), she had two sips and I crushed the rest. It was seriously good. This and Et Tu Brut are probably the 2 best fruited American wilds I've ever had.

Coincidentally, I just came across some pics of this while fishing around an old Photobucket album looking for pics for the old glasswhale thread:

Drank it in May 2013 when a few of us attending a conference at Berkeley went over to Toronado one evening. Had some Pliny, Blind Pig, Death & Taxes, etc. then asked to look at the bottle list. I recall it being $50. I had about half the bottle, the two friends with me each just wanted a small glass to try it.

Agreed that it's the best AWA I've ever had. Got to try a micro-ticker pour in November 2015 and it was still good but not as beautiful as I recall, but obviously that could also be a function of quantity consumed. I've definitely seen some recent pics though with big pours that are this muted rust-red color rather than the vibrant deep cherry-red in that photo.

Consumed this while hanging out with Fingolfin and Minnesotaryan. Batch E!037 is still hanging with only a hints of its age showing. Good company makes for a better beer drinking experience.

Ahh, yes this was one of my favorite AWAs for so long. I opened my last bottle for a friend's wedding this Spring and it was definitely hanging in there, much better than some other beers from the same time frame.

This is the perfect statement. I hate talking about beer, beer, beer. It eventually becomes a dick swinging contest. I don't give a **** that you smelled the farts of JVR after he had a bottle of Don Q from the cellar. Learn more at lambic.info. I don't care about what you have aging in the back of a closet at your mother's house.

Beer is a vehicle to get to know people.

Birthday present arrived a day early. Nothing younger than the 2011 Abacus. The unlabeled bottle is a 2010 CBS that was bottled for and given out at GABF.

Have had most of those, but not in quite a while (except for Twisted Spoke which I had couple years ago and thought was very good). Nice haul!
