I have been watching the site now for a while and doing searches but they are pretty scattered. I thought it would be a good idea if we could get everyone who purchases corny kegs (new or used, pin/ball lock) to post where they bought them, what type and how much with shipping on this post. That way we can narrow it down to who has the best deals. I suggest the following format:

I only picked up two used ball locks, but I got them for $20 each. Unfortunately, they don't advertise for these kegs, nor do they ship anything (they're just a small local company). However, I figured I'd inform anyone on here in case they're in the RI area. Very nice people to deal with BTW.

I recently got two ball locks straight from my local Pepsi distributor, they sell them once the rubber starts to come off the top. $25+tax each, plus I picked up a couple O-ring sets from my LHBS.

Just 2 different styles of posts. Ball lock disconnects lock on to the post using balls. Pin lock disconnects are designed to lock to the pins on the the pin-lock posts.

I believe the pin locks are narrower and taller than ball locks...only matters if you're pressed for space.

Other way around. Pin locks are shorter and wider, ball locks are narrower and taller.

A week ago, I spent a day pricing out the best deal for 2 pin-lock kegs shipped to 91107.

Midwest: $60 + $14.40shipping = $74.40
Austin: $80 + $8shipping = $88 ($100 = free shipping)
CornyKeg: $48 or $54 + $28shipping = $76-$82
KegConnection: $70 + $8shipping = $78
MoreBeer: $50 + didn't check shipping but noticed: $59 = free shipping

I'll probably place an order from Morebeer, since I only need to spend $9 on something else to be eligible for free shipping.

You really should shop around because shipping may be the deal breaker depending on where you live. Also, I can't speak for the quality of any of these kegs.

Edit: If you're looking for a starter kit (including lines, connections, and tank), I got my kit at kegconnection; there was no better deal available.

All depends on your setup and whether your space constraints are length and width, or height. Other than that, there's not much difference (besides the obvious post differences).

To the OP: Something that doesn't get mentioned too much is that ball-lock kegs have a built-in pressure relief valve on the lid that you can pull on to relieve pressure. Pin-locks only have an emergency pressure valve, and you have to relieve pressure through the gas post with a little tool that most suppliers will send you.

Yep, they came holding pressure and the only thing "wrong" with them was the roughened up handles. Looks like someone took a belt sander to them, but you can still pick the kegs up by them, so they work.

On Rt. 44. Their number is 231-0040. Call and ask if they have any ball lock kegs. Not sure if they sell them all the time. It's a soda distributer/small company so their business isn't selling kegs but I think if they have any lying around they sell them. I got two and they are in great condition for used kegs. No dents!

Picked up 10 pin lock kegs from RI Fruit & Syrup.
$20 each, can't be beat in this area (cash only). They're *really* filthy but manageable with PBW and a stainless steel scrubber.

The guy claimed they were cleaned and O-rings changed, but upon inspection... not so much. Couldn't get 10 identical. Mismatched lids (some pressure reliefs, some not). In the process of replacing all O-rings and lids now. Overall I'm thrilled because of the low price!
