Hello all.

I'm getting ready to brew my 2nd batch pretty soon. Some of the recipes i've seen on Steinbart's say to add 30% of the malt extract at the normal time and 70% of malt extract during the last 5 minutes of boil. I guess its suppose it gives it a lighter color and improved hop utilization, not to failure with this concept. I'm curious to hear your opinions on this. How many of you do this? Is it worth doing? and are there other benefits to doing this?

Thanks in advance.:)

Full volume boils matter a lot more than late extract additions do. However, I do both. I'll only add like 15-20% extract late though. I like the way my beers turn out.

Agreed. Full volume boil with late DME addition. Makes your beer clearer and just all around better IMO.
Cheers!

You'd better do a search in HBT .

There are millions of threads covering "Late Extract Addition" .

I wonder as I see each time a new topic about it .
