I’m not sure if beaker is the right term but my Dad who was a chemist gave this to me around 40 years ago to use as a terrarium. It has been sitting in my basement forever and I would like to get rid of it. I have no idea what it’s worth and haven’t found anything like it on the internet.

it is Pyrex glass around 3/8” thick, 12” dia., 18” ht. and has a capacity of around 8.8 gallons. I’m not a beer maker but thought someone on the forum might be able to shed some light. I don’t really want to ship it on EBay but would prefer to sell it locally. I’m located in Denver.

Thanks

Wow! That's a special piece of glassware that survived the test of time!

The dimpled sides may be to clamp it into a fork/holder, or so, in a lab environment.
A glass laboratory bucket/vessel. I'm sure there's a proper, fancier name for it as there is for everything in that field.

Now, are you offering this for sale here? With a local pickup only restriction?
Or just to gather input on what it is?

If you're offering this for sale, you will need to list an asking price. It also needs to be posted in the For Sale forum.
You can negotiate price from there on with prospective buyers, preferably in private conversations.

I can move the thread to the For Sale forum for you. Let me know.
Or [Report] this thread (button on the bottom of your post) with your request to move.

Good luck!

Wow, I had no idea it was worth that much. Thanks for the links. I may try listing it for sale on the For Sale forum later on this week.

Mind, though, those listed catalog prices of similar new items at a science supply outfit may or may not be an indication of what yours is worth.

For example, your vessel may have "antique value," "curiosity value," "rarity value," or simply "cool value" well above those listed catalog prices to certain collectors and potentially interested buyers in some market. While having no value at all to a lab or homebrewer.

IOW, I can't see this vessel being used in day to day homebrewing unless it's to prove a point or trying to impress someone.

I urge you to do your own research, extensively and carefully!
2 posts of casual feedback on a homebrew forum (this includes the one I left) are not conclusive of anything.

.

What are you saying?
A potential buyer of a $1700 piece of lab glass isn’t shopping on Craigslist or Homebrewtalk classifieds :)

I would probably sell it for $100 plus shipping which could be expensive. I don’t feel like going to the post office now so check back in a month if you are interested.
