I might be guilty of not paying full attention in the past, but I really can’t remember seeing this amount of solids during my boil. Just curious if this anything to worry about. Also, just happy to know what exactly I’m seeing here regardless.

I've had some that seemed clean and others that were filthy with solids. Even for times I had to pour it all in the FV, it still came out clean beer.

Does pose a problem if your FV isn't big enough to handle it all. And with my last brew I forgot to use my hop bags and all those hops went to the FV too.

Might try to strain it with that hop basket as you pour it into the FV. But be ready for it to clog up, just in case.

yeah sometimes i get a clean boil sometimes a junky one even with the same bill. it all ends up in the bottom of the kettle if you just wait a little.

hey DB is gentle boil really ok. i have seen opinions on both gentle and vigorous. i like gentle better cause its easier to maintain a constant gentle boil then a vigorous one and its less likely to scorch .

hotbeer - i have tried to strain boiled wort and i gave up on it a while ago. it always clogs anything you try (bag basket etc) and doesnt seem to make a difference in the end product for me.

I give just enough flame to keep it at 212.

There's a video somewhere showing different boil levels. Mine's a 1.

Yeah that one^

I've got reasons.

I’ve brewed so many batches in an old aluminum kettle and just dumped every bit of hop matter and hot/cold break into the FV that I don’t get too worked up about some bits making their way into the fermentation. I was just a little shocked by the amount of hot break in this one.

After the kettle whirlpool, I run the boiled wort through a filtering basket before pumping it to the plate chiller. This works for me and doesn't send any debris through the narrow plates of the chiller.

I have reduced my boil of rate from nearly one gallon to .5 gallon per hour. I use less fuel and I have not noticed any difference in the beer. Takes a little recipe adjustment to get preboil gravity right.

There's a lot of debate on boiling times too even some no boil methods. I'm not sold on that one just yet.

Every one is different, so what works best in each situation in your brew day. All good research to explore.
