Hey all. I'm brewing a hef and decided to use a blowoff tube because the recipe called for 5.5gal in the fermenter. This thing has been bubbling like crazy! I've run into a problem though-- the pressure is so great that the lid keeps popping open. Any ideas what to do? The blowoff tube has some debris in there, but there's still plenty of space for the CO2 to go.

Thanks.

If you have a blowoff tube (or airlock) in place and the top of the bucket is still blowing off then the "debris" is more of a problem that you think. It must be impeding or blocking the escape route for the CO2 in the blowoff.

Remove, clean and replace the airlock/blowoff. If the pressure gets high enough to blow the lid off a bucket, it should be plenty high enough to vent out the blowoff first.
Make sure the lid is on the bucket tight also.

Thanks for the response.

Yea, I took it out and there was a whole bunch of debris in there. I'm using a 3/8" tube I believe because nothing bigger will fit. Is there anything I can do to make sure this doesn't keep happening?

I had the exact same problem with my hef and eventually had to tape the stopper on!

I've had some success just leaving one corner of the lid loose until the yeast calms down a bit and it isn't as pressurized.
