I brew beer. and with that I'm used to a big, gurgling, active primary fermentation where gunk is swirling around everywhere and there's lots of foam on top.

my first kombucha batch is just about 2 days in the primary and I really can't see any visible signs that anything is happening. My SCOBY just looks kind of limp and is half submerged not really doing anything. Is this what I should be expecting? what are the signs of a healthy ferment I should be looking for? tried to Google this but to no avail.

thanks.

You won't see much activity with kombucha. No foam, no swirling. The scoby can sometimes sink and rise.

Be patient. I tend to let my go 2 weeks and bottle. It's easy to taste as you go and see if anything is happening. Just take a sip and see.

Nah... You wont see much action from a SCOBY. They are lazy! Lazier than my teenage daughter, but not by much......LOL

Cheers
