Question: if you save a sample of the wort before pitching yeast can you still get an accurate OG?

Background: I broke my hydrometer when I went to check my OG and of course it was after hours.

Also remember that most hydrometers are standardized to 59F, so you may have to convert your reading based on the temp if it isn't pretty close to that temp.

Yes, you can. Just make sure the sample is not fermenting with yeast or wild yeast/bugs.

Awesome I am going to get my hydrometer tomorrow since I forgot today haha

Pour the sample into a (covered) jar and stick it in the fridge in the meantime. Nothing of any significance will happen to it in there.

ive got it in the tube that i use to test with the hydrometer and its covered with a baggie and rubberband

so i should put it in the fridge?
