Kegs for boiling

I would like to get a keg for brewing. Where do you guys get the kegs from. I'm assuming that you guys just cut the top off of them and add a ball valve on the bottom with a high temp gasket. am i right?

Try Sabco (www.kegs.com), or look on ebay. Or you can try to just find one yourself, from a scrap dealer or something.

You can either convert it yourself (you really need a plasma cutter to do it right) or buy it premade.

Even if you buy it premade, you'll probably want to add some sort of siphon tube and filtering device inside the keggle.

Kegs are avail from all over. You just have to be creative, check scrap yards for the cheap versions, then invest a little sweat and you will have a perfect boil kettle. If the outside looks ruff, you can clean it up with some fine grit wet/dry sand paper. Inside can be maintained with pbw.

One note, when you make the first cut, be aware there may still be pressure inside. Also, Make sure you wear eye protection when doing anything with grinders or any other cutting device on a keg. Should a stainless particle get in your eye you wouldnt like the docs having to get it out.

You can always remove more but you can never ad back.
