Any reason I couldn't use a sight glass in my MLT if I use this false bottom?

http://www.homebrewing.org/Stainless-Steel-PICO-style-keg-kettle-false-bottom_p_1010.html

I am thinking bottom drain keggle with this false bottom and adding a sight glass to monitor during sparge. Looks like it has plenty of space blow the false bottom so clogging shouldn't be an issue.

I currently recirculate through a herms, and fly sparge so I am not too concerned about all the slack space under the plates.

Should I stick with side drain just in case I want to direct fire for step mash?

So many decisions.

I don't see why not. presumably it just covers the bottom bowl of the keg, and your sight glass wouldn't interject into that space anyway.

That false bottom is better than most for using a sight gauge due to its height off the bottom

Thanks, think I will go ahead and add a sight glass to this.

Your False bottom seems to set higher in the keg relative to the weld than mine. Is your drain below the false bottom when installed? My false bottom sits about 3/4" above the weld.

In order to keep the sight glass below the false bottom, I had to solder in the fitting as it was right on the edge of the weld and wouldn't seal. In order to put a 1/2" coupler below the false bottom on mine it would end up being on the curve behind the skirt.
