Keggle form Sabco

I had a thread earlier today concerning brew pots The general consensus was that a keggle was the best deal. A few questions. Should I buy a uasd one for $100 or new for $150? A SS ball valve or a Brass one? If I Buy a brass ball valve at home depot will it just screw into the fitting in the keggle? If I don't buy the thermometer can I buy a cap to cover the thermometer hole? Is there any other fittings I will need ?

I'd buy used. I did, and it was still immaculate. Very nice work done on these.

For fittings--definitely get with TNlandsailor. He can hook you up with a sightglass, a plug if you don't have a thermometer yet, and if you are REALLY smart, a hopstopper. That piece of genius saved this hobby for me. I was seriously considering quitting.

At that price, why bother with brass? Free shipping when you get to 60 bucks so find the other goodies you want and have no questions whether you should go stainless or brass.

I agree with the Dude...I'm very pleased with my used one.

It's really a matter of personal taste...I went with SS, but brass is fine too. The ball valve doesn't attach directly to the keggle...you need a 1/2" nipple with male threads on each end. This screws into the dual port on the keggle, and the ball valve attaches to it. You can look at the pics on Northern Brewer to get a parts list and see how it all fits together, or just call tnlandsailor and tell him to fix you up.

I've seen the hopstopper and was wondering how it worked. My biggets concern is clogging. Sounds like it must really work good for you.

I bought their used ones and would not buy used ones again. I honestly don't care if they're banged up on the sides (which they are) but one of them won't sit flat because the bottom rim is pretty badly dented... it rocks side to side.

Wanted to post an update. David (see above), let me know that Sabco does not usually sell used kegs with dented rims. I contacted Sabco and, even though it's been a while since my purchase, they're going to do something about it. So hats off to Sabco and, once again, thank you David.
