i am about to keg "holiday cheer". i have read that i can use DME instead of using corn sugar for primming the keg. i have read that i use 1 1/4 cup DME and 1 pint of water and boil for 5 mins. will this be enough or is it to much DME and enough water or not enough water. if any suggestions please let me know. thanks a bunch.

primary "holiday cheer"
secondary "nothing"
bottles "nothing"
keg #1 Keller
keg #2 empty awaiting this holiday cheer

how much beer?

5 gallons at 2.5 volumes of co2 calls for 5.67 oz dme. I would dissolve it in as little water as necessary.

There are plenty of online calculators to allow you to figure out how much corn sugar, cane sugar, or DME to use for a given volume of beer and CO2

why not force carb? i personally hate having yeast in the bottom of my keg.

Be careful that you use enough water so that your priming solution isn't too thick. The one time I used DME I tried to use minimal water and wound up with too much sticking to my pot and my beer was a little under carbonated.

The amounts stated in the OP sound OK if you're bottling five gallons. I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that kegging takes a much smaller amount of priming sugar, though. Not sure on how big the difference is offhand.

On the other hand, kegging has the advantage of adjustments on the fly. If you over carbonate, you can bleed some of the pressure out later, whereas with a bottle you stand the risk of making bottle bombs
