I saw something on the cider section about kegging the cider to carbonate then bottling. For the cider it could be useful sweetening, and keeping the abv lower without making bottle bombs. Is this doable with beer as well to carbonate in a keg and then bottle it?

I'm working on my first batch of cider(apple honey) and first beer batch(Munich dunkle) simultaneously. (I love beer but my wife has a gluten intolerance so she requested a cider)

I carbonate in a keg and when I need to take a growler or a couple bottles for friends to try, I first pop the bottles/growler in the freezer to get it cold. Then I spray a little starsan inside the bottle to clean and lube it, drain. After that I go to my keg and disconnect the gas line then bleed the gas in the keg. I reconnect the gas line and set to ~4psi. Fill the growler/bottles and cap. Works well enough for what I need. I don't know how long they will stay carbed though. They even sell fancy gadgets to accomplish this.

Yes I've been using one of the Bowie Bottler setups and just tasted a beer over a year old in the bottle. Still had great carbonation. Just remember to "cap on foam". This will ensure no oxygen got trapped in there.

I use the cheap method with the racking cane and stopper. It works great. I've had beer bottled for a while and it pours the same as it did out of the keg.

Ok Wow. Thanks guys! Im just getting into brewing and this is very helpful information!
