I’ve just started kegging and I have used dextrose as well as force carb which both have turned out fine. I haven’t had luck taking a bottle to go somewhere or basically using a growler from the keg, it is always flat. I am wondering how it would turn out if I use dextrose put it in the keg and then siphoning some bottles out to have on hand? Maybe 12 or 15 bottles.

To naturally carb both the keg and bottles? Should work if it’s well mixed. However you can bottle carbonated beer from a keg. I use a bottling wand with the plunger mechanism removed, I fill from the bottom until the foam stops and beer begins coming out, I then lift the wand out while continuing to let it flow. Cap on foam but not much, overfill it compared to what you’d do for bottle conditioning as Head space is your enemy.

Thank you, I think I am going to try it this time with the kegs and bottles, my only concern was the headspace I would have in the keg but if I connect it to the CO2 and in the fridge now at a normal 10 psi or so it should be fine. I will definitely try taking the wand without the plunger mechanism at some point. I’ve seen things being sold for Notting from keg for around $100 and I just didn’t want to spend that amount for something like that.

Yea, with the easy and cheap solution of a bottling wand it makes no sense to buy a $100 beer gun. You get more waste with the bottling wand technique and it only really works with a picnic faucet but it does work well.

I bottle off my kegs using a vinyl 1/2 inch hose. I fill kegs this way too or sometimes I Just put the growler up to the faucet and let it rip. I use a bucket to catch any spills or foam. I also put the gas down to 1 or 2 psi so it runs nice and slow out of keg. Having the bottles cold helps to avoid foam also.
Good luck!
