Keg polishing

I read the sticky on keg polishing but I'm a little confused about the polishing compound. I read in the sticky that #5 was more abrasive than #1 but then I read somewhere else it was opposite. Can anyone clarify this?

It goes coarse to fine; #1 to #5.

Guess that explains why the #5 didn't take many swirl marks out even though I polished them for hours. Ill go to the #1 and probably do a tad better. Thanks

Where did you find the polish at. I can't find any

Local Lowes or Home Depot should have it in the power tools section. Difficult to find, but should be there somewhere near the grinding/buffing wheels.

Harbor Freight has a green compound that works pretty well as a final buff.

So I found done red colored final buffing compound at ace. But at times it burns the compound onto the keg? Anyone know what that means. To much compound/ to little/ to much pressure???

Red doesn't work well on SS. If you're leaving black sticky stuff on the part, you aren't using enough pressure, or it's the wrong compound, or the wrong wheel, or the wrong speed.
The part will get hot... that means it's cutting. You should be able to apply a bit of compound to the wheel, then buff a small area using adequate pressure until it's completely clean and polished. Then repeat at the next small area.
You should clean all traces of the cut (coarse) compound off before moving onto the color (fine) compound.

Why isn't red good for ss?? It's all I could find, Home Depot didn't have any and we don't have a lowes. Online I see lowes has some porter cable but all I can find is the light polish compound 4????

I use the Lowes cleaning disc on a 4-1/2" grinder http://www.lowes.com/pd_251029-1069...=1&currentURL=?Ntt=4-1%2F2%22+disc&facetInfo=
Then a 8" spiral sewn sisal wheel and Black compound on a 1500 rpm buffer for the "cut" step.
Then a 8" spiral sewn cotton wheel and green compound for the "color" step.
