Hello beer dudes and non dudes,

Ive been kegging for a couple of months and cant seem to get the carbing right. Ive been priming with sugar so I can keep my fridge stocked, but seem to have some leaking problems. All but one of my kegs have leaked so far. The last one I sealed up with 10 psi and sprayed with soap and water to see no leaks. Sure enough after waiting for two weeks after kegging, I hooked it up to the tank to get ready to tap it only to hear it fill up the head space with CO2. Indeed it was flat. In addition Ive noticed that all these kegs that have leaked have a distinct taste. Does anyone have any similar experiences and or suggestions?

Odd. I usually hit mine with 30 psi to seal the lid and use plenty of keg lube on the gaskets. No leaks yet.

I think if they leak, then O2 could probably be getting in and you'd be tasting oxidation. It's possible your gas poppet leaked a little after you took the gas QD off after sealing the lid.

The freedom from these problems is using the CO2 tank to carb. However if you must use sugar then the 30psi initial CO2, with keg lube and some spacers as needed under the plastic keg feet help keep the tension on the lid.

+1 on 30 PSI

What is "plenty of keg lube"? I use it but i am afraid of using too much, so i just use a film.

I normally just use a film as well. However, if I run into an issue where I am getting a slow leak, I'll slather it on and that will take care of it.

I think thats why they send you all them credit cards in the mail. They make great leg shims for your corny kegs

Hey, thanks guys. I definitely will seal it with at least 30 psi. I firmly believe that will solve the problem. For all I know my regulator lagged when I adjusted the pressure and it never even got the full 10. As for the lube: apply liberally as I always say. Its a shame the keg leaked though. The beer is an AHB clone of the Amherst Anniversary ale which I highly recommend based on both its origins and its kick ass flavor. However mine has a serious lack of front end flavor. The bitter aftertaste is there but you don't get the dryness or the bite in the beginning. Anyhow, cheers.
