OK, so I have a really nice tower I was able to get with two perlick taps that I really want to use. I see chest freezers for less than 100 bucks a lot on craigs list but have never, at least not that I remember, seen anybody put the taps on the lid of the freezer instead of making a collar for it. Is it possible to do? I would love to have two kegs running and keep two in cold storage so this would be a nice way to use the parts I have and keep the wife happy with minimal purchase.

Edit: After a quick Google search I found a lot of examples, so please disregard unless you want to show me what you got or what you did. Thanks to all

I just added the stout tap to my tap tower.

I made a wood top for my keezer and attached 2 2-tap towers to that which gave it a lot more structural integrity.

The negative of top mounted towers is that you'll have to pull the keezer away from the wall some to open the lid. Mine opens over the bar so I only need to pull it out a few inches, but if I had a wall behind it, I'd have to pull it out a couple feet. I put it on some appliance rollers so no big deal.

It's a Trap! ...and one a lot of us fall into: Have a piece of gear and want to use it wether it is the most suitable for our circumstance or not. If I recall from other posts, you don't have a lot of space and like @matt_m just said; you'll need to pull it away from the wall to open it. There's also the matter of air-recirculation: Keezers with collar mounted taps on long shanks have the edge in energy-efficiency/tap-cooling and they don't need a separate cooling tube up the tower which still won't keep the taps as cool as some nice long shanks will. Why not just keep the Perlicks and trade the tower for some 6"-10" shanks and keep it simple and efficient?
..just my 2-cents.

Yeah, forgot to mention the need for a tower cooler (I built mine since I needed a double). It works ok, but I do pour a little foam and my basement is cool and dry so I don't have condensation issues someone might have in a garage.

How far you need to pull it out depends on the configuration of the opening mechanism for the lid. I have a tower on my wooden surround with wood bar top. The lid lifts using gas struts. The opening range is actually affected by the low ceiling and the angle of the struts. This makes the opening very narrow. Since I extended the bar top forward about 10 inches, the tower is closer to the front of the freezer. While this isn't exactly the top you are considering, limiting the angle the top sweeps through can limit how far off the wall you need to move the keezer to load it. But NO BIGGIE. Put a base with wheels under it. You'll have a walkway in front of it.

Yes, some cooling is helpful in the tower.

Note, consider carefully positioning the tower as those lines interfere with loading and they extend down before turning. I still added a collar to mine before building the surround.

All great info folks. Thank you for all the input. I am still trying to figure out what to do. I am, for now, just going to replace my old setup with the new and only run one tap. One day, maybe, I double tap kegerator will be in the works. But for now, the single seems to be doing exactly what I need it to do. Rock On!!!!!!!
