Are the wood collars that I frequently see on keezers, effective at keeping in the cool temps, or would it be a good idea to better insulate the inside of the collar?

2x's are great insulators.

Remember, a chest freezer holds the cold air in the bottom of the box anyway, so it's not like you have cold air trying to push its way out through the collar.
