So i just got back from the hardware store with 2 10' rolls of 3/16" ID, yeah i know EVAbarrier...but we all know vinyl is good enough for me!

But anyway pours way better then my old 1/4"....when i balanced my lines 15 years ago, it was all about PSI resistance per foot, "balancing"

Is this seconds per pour stuff new since then?

Seconds per pour is closely related to line resistance. If you get a 16 oz pour in about 10 seconds with a wide open tap, then your total line resistance is about right for the pressure at which you are serving. The problem with line resistance, is there are a lot of sources on the internet that have incorrect information (they think standard vinyl 3/16" tubing has a resistance of ~3 psi/ft when it is actually more like 1 psi/ft.)

If you use flow time, you don't have to worry about knowing what the line resistance is. You can just hook up a long line, and then cut it back until your pour time is about 10 seconds. This is pretty easy to do if you are using push on fittings (Duotight, et. al.) rather than barbed fittings.

off-topic, but can you giive me, or tell me if it's even possible to squeeze 3/16 ID tubing onto a 5/16 barb? the first one went on fairly easy....unfornatly, my second tap if a flare fitting, so that i can swap between pin lock and ball lock QDs....i can't even find them anymore...it's this weird "duo-tight" stuff...stuff looks to complicated for me....i just want a good ol' fashioned flare nut, with a 3/16 barb.....more beer doesn't sell them, and i can seem to find on ebay....

You can get 3/16" tubing in 1/4" barb fairly easily, but 5/16" is going to be a struggle. You can try softening up the end of the tubing in boiling water, and then using a tapered mandrel (I find a nail set has a convenient taper) to expand the opening.

If it's thin wall tubing no sweat. Thick wall tubing maybe. Use hot water and maybe some keglube.

fwiw, I got the 5mm ID (pretty close to 3/16") EVAbarrier over a 3/8ths barb using heat and a swaging tool...

1/4" barbs go well inside 3/16" thick wall beverage tubing.

funny, right before i came back to check posts, i allready decided to take the end i squeezed onto the 1/4" picnic tap off, and see if that would let me get it started and then just keep pushing and pushing........

and IL i guess it's thin walled, it's reinforced....


i guess the hose clamp is going to be over kill if it even works.....

"Complicated" is in the mind.
Duotight fittings are easier to use than screwing down a worm clamp. And it won't pierce your hand.
Afraid the line would slip out over time, or suddenly at some point? Try to remove it when the collar is locked. Try it!

Use the Duotight 1/4" flare to 8mm tubing adapter. No brainer.

i might eventually but i'm behind the times, i just now after 15 years of using 1/4" beer line, decided to pull the trigger on two $4 rolls of 3/16"... lol
