I just upgraded my brew kettle from 7.5 gal to a 20 gal one. I didn't think to check the diameter of my burner and when the kettle got here it was wider then I thought it was and it doesn't fit inside the little ridge on my cheap turkey burner. Would it be bad to use it anyway and just set the the pot on the little ridge for a few brews? Would it even work? Or should I suck it up and wait fir a new burner?

Not sure how effective the flame will be. Guess it depends on how high the ring is. Another thought is, can the ring hold any weight? If it's just tack welded on, I'd be a little scared. Try a test run with 6 gallons of water.

Can you remove that little ridge or ring? You can on mine is the reason I ask. It very well could affect the efficiency if the ridge or ring is very tall because the pot is farther away from the burner. Not to mention you're balancing all that weight on a thin strip of metal.

Sounds like a good time to upgrade your burner ;)

BTW tell us about that massive kettle. Pics?

I didn't even think about that! The ring is only about 1/2 inch high. I guess I'll give it a test run and see what happens! If it doesn't work I guess I'll be buying a banjo burner!(or something comparable)

I'll have to check when I get back home if that ring is removable!

The kettle is just an aluminum stock pot that I got from waresdirect.com for about 60 bucks plus shipping. A really great deal if you don't mind brewing in aluminum!!
