John Guest fittings

After struggling with the bev flex tubing for what seems like weeks, I am ready to get the damn John Guest fittings. However, I have an issue. My shanks have a barb built in to them... There is no fitting from what I could tell to go from a barb to john guest fitting. Do I have any options here other than buying new shanks?

What if you cut the barbs off. Maybe leave a small nub sticking out and finish the rest of the removal by drilling the barb just beyond flush with the gasket surface, to avoid gasket surface damage.

You'll still have to rig up a few inches of non-bevflex hosing between barbs but that'll be cheaper and easier than buying new shanks.
