I just got back from LHBS with the ingredients for Jamil Zanishef’s Lite Lager. Has anyone else made this?
5 Gallon Recipe
8.3 lbs 2-Row
2 lbs Flaked rice
.72oz Hallertau 60 Min
149 degrees for 60 Min
WLP840 American Lager Yeast

Haven't had it but it doesn't look very lite, I guess it's a subjective thing but I am guessing you will be in the 1.050 - 1.055 for your OG on this. A far cry from the 1.032 something that a American light beer is.
 
I think he is probably shooting for 1B Standard American Lager.

Not much to it, simple with nowhere for a mistake to hide. You will have to be spot on with your fermentation. I will probably brew something like this soon. I know my dad would like it and I will enjoy the challenge to brew it.
 
That is indeed his "standard" american lager, 1B.
Also, you need to keep in mind OP that it is for a SIX gallon batch, as is everything in Brewing Classic Styles. The recipe targets a SG of 1.046, and you probably want around 7.5 gallons preboil, and make sure to do 90 minute boil. Keep the hops on a 60 minute boil though. Sorry if you knew all that haha

IMO the BJCP needs to prune away some of the american light lager styles. I mean there's 4 of them and they're very close to each other :p Light, Standard, Premium, and American Pilsner! Kinda silly .. anywhoo good luck with the brew!
 
That is per JZ's recipe, he calls for 2-or-6-row, with 90 minute 149 mash, and 90 minute boil. The extract recipe calls for 60 minute boil however.
There's some DMS from 2-row as well as pilsner surely, and with light beers it becomes more important to address every flavor issue. That's my guess.. but I'd agree that 90 minute is less important for 2row than pilsner.
 
i made the extract version of the Anderstone lite, that's the light american lager from brewing classic styles, i actually have it on tap right now. i have to say that if i brewed it again i would surely want to brew the all grain version, mainly because after about 2 months, you can still taste this wierd aftertaste that i think are from the rice syrup solids, thought i've never brewed with rice so i can't say for sure.
I mainly made it for my father in law, but i have to say that it might taste a little funky at first, it just needs time, i thought that it was just crappy beer at first, but now that it's five months old, it's actually a good light american lager, obviously not even close to my favorite style, or beer for me.

BREW IT UP! JUST LET IT AGE BEFORE YOU JUDGE IT!
 
Tuesday is brew day. I'm realy hoping I won't have to wait 5 months befor the beer is good. I'll post how it tuns out.
 
Tuesday's brew day was good. The SG was 1.050. After two days I had big yeastbergs floating around. This was a first.
