My first attempt at a homemade IPA Bobs IPA is ready to bottle. I'm so excited. One step closer to my modest dream of creating my own ipa from scratch that I can say, HEY - this is mine.
Congrats brother, you’ll be building your own recipes in no time.

I’m going to give you some advice on ipa. Put just as much or even more effort on eliminating opportunities of cold side oxidation. That and health Fermentations are the two things that make you’re quality improve.

I saw this thread and decided to use it for a celebratory shoutout for my Friday off and bottling day! Gotta get that Irish stout into bottles and turn around the fermenter in 48 hours!

Cheers to you! Bottling used to be my favorite part of the whole process because it was the last time I'd touch the beer before i'd be enjoying it. I just don't get the same feeling with filling kegs. Although it does feel pretty damn good to pull a fresh pint of homebrew off your own tap.

You and I are in the vast minority in enjoying bottling days. Admittedly, my volume is lower than most (3-4G), but I still find it mostly enjoyable especially after I got my process down. Stream some TV on my iPad or crank some tunes in the basement and its a nice way to spend a few hours.

This is true... I usually only bottle 3 gallon batches as well but I only really bottle beers that I can age for a long time. I just bottled a dubbel and I'm planning a bourbon oaked strong ale soon as well.

I'm also trying a "bottle lagered" process because I have limited cold storage. The idea is to keep the bottles conditioning then put 6-12 in the fridge for 30 days before consuming and just keep rotating them. Not ideal but it's all I can do with what I have atm.

I've also started buying bottled beer just so I can keep the bottles. I have started buying beer based on how easy the labels come off haha. Luckily, Sierra Nevada's labels come off pretty easily and they're short necks!

Bottle lagering works great for me. I have a rye lagering atm.

I’m lucky in that the local brewery is all pop tops and super popular. Labels slide right off after a short pbw soak too.

I always had bad luck capping Sierra nevada. But I was very inexperienced at the time, could have been an operator error.

oh man, I'd love a place to give me some flip-tops. i have a few 750 flip-tops that I used for big beers I can cellar. They're the best and not having to buy and worry about caps is a major plus.

If you're using a wing capper they're very hit and miss on how well they work I have found. I bought one when I first started brewing then, along the way, I acquired 2 more of the same make/model and they both do not work very well. I was able to make an adjustment to one of them to get it working better but I have 1 bottle that was flat due to it not crimping the cap all the way. Not sure which capper I used so now I'm just extra careful when I bottle. This last batch I bottled yesterday seems to have gone well but time will tell! I need to label the cappers or something...

What Brewery is Pop top??? For science purposes....

Maybe terminology isn’t unisversal, or I’m clear in the wrong, but pop tops to me have always meant crown caps, not flip top style. Sorry if I got yas excited hahaha

I bought a Belgian Strong Ale kit with ambitious plans to enjoy it Christmas Eve. I was delayed a few weeks getting it brewed but finally getting it bottled tonight!
