Hello good people of HBT...I have a quick question, ok, well I am hoping it's a quick question.

I brewed a Rye Ale 6 days ago. The OG was 1.064 and it fermented at 62 degrees (ambient) using Safale us-05. No rehydration, pitched straight from the pack around 70 degrees. Two days into fermentation the ambient temp was up to 65 degrees. On the third day it was back down to 62 degrees and it has be at 62 since then.

On the 4th day it looked like the krausen dropped. I didn't open the fermenter but I can see it through the bucket.

Ok now on to my question...I opened the fermenter today to take a reading and dry hop and I see this:

What is this stuff floating on top? I assume it's just some yeast that didn't drop out. The beer doesn't have any off flavors or off aroma. It actually tastes/smells great.

Should I just rdwhahb?? I never ferment in carboys so I never get a chance to see the fermentation process but I have never seen this on top of my beer.

Thanks for looking!

Looks like yeast floaties to me, but I am a few home brews deep already. :ban:

Hahaha, I like your style! I am in the same boat.

Will they drop out? Should I raise the temp? Can I/Should I dry hop?

When I took the pics it was really dark...
Now that I look at the pics a little closer, I see a lot of bubbles on top with the "Floaties". I don't think fermentation it done yet. I am just wondering if this is normal.

I guess I am just gonna crack this Bigfoot open and then hit they hay...:tank:

Raising the temp for a couple of days isn't going to hurt it, but if you want to get yeast out of suspension then cool it. If you dry hop do it at the current or warmer temp to get more out of the hops. Good luck hope this helps..

Cool. Thanks everyone. I figured it was just some yeast but I wanted to double check.

It's not that I don't want to rack to a secondary, it's just that I don't feel that it is necessary with this beer. If the majority felt that it would help the beer if I racked it off the "floaties", then I probably would.
