4 gallon partial mash

2 lbs 2 row
1/2 lb Maris otter
1/2 lb chocolate
1/4 lb roasted

Nottingham dry

Actually beer judges do say that often and then dock you points for entering in the wrong category;)

Porters generally do not have a roasty flavor to them and not necessarily all stouts but definitely more common in a stout

Yeah, that's pretty much my opinion too. Commercially, you can't tell a difference between stouts and porters other than a beer labeled "stout" generally sells better than one labeled "porter".

But when my taste buds are involved, if I don't perceive a coffee-like flavor, I think "porter". When I do taste coffee-like flavors, I think "stout."
