I brewed this Double IPA back in June. I've let it sit in the primary until today Sept 28. I looked at it a month ago and it looked fine.

Today their was a clear off white film with what looks like bubbles. I racked it off into a secondary being careful not to suck it through.

Should I continue or should I dump it.

That's an infection. However I will step to the side and allow those with much more expertise in this field to properly help assess the situation. The only tidbit I will say is this: generally as long as it doesn't smell bad or taste bad, bottle it up and drink it quickly.

Also, why did you wait so long to move the beer out of the primary?

Dump.

Way too long in a bucket with a ton of headspace.

IPA's generally have a pretty fast turnaround as you want the hop flavors fresh.

There will always be folks that will say never dump. Try x, y, z, and you've got an unintentional sour.

if you can make that work to your liking, have at it.

Me, no question, not going to waste another second of my time and energy. Taste it for science and dump. Learn from the mistakes

And make another batch.

Beautiful pellicle BTW. Be sure you post it in the post your infection thread. Really nice pictures. Thanks for sharing them.

I left it in the primary that long because I moved since I originally brewed it. All my supplies were packed away and I finally got around to doing it.

I looked at it twice since I moved in to show. I think its my basement. My home was built in the 1930's and my landlord requires me to run a dehumidifier because it is damp. I assume it was infected when I pulled the lid off.

Trial and error. I guess I'm not brewing in my basement.

Thanks you all and happy brewing

I agree with yooper. That broken ice pack looks like lacto. but the surface is different. Definitely infected, but could turn out interesting. My Maori IPA with all NZ hops did that once & it came out kinda like a light sour or something akin to that.

Probably less about the basement and more about the 4 months in a bucket with a huge amount of headspace.

I'm with Gavin.

I personally don't have the patience or equipment to take a chance with leaving an infected batch to possibly sour up. I also don't feel like replacing the plastic that comes in contact with the beer. And having to sanitize the bottles/keg used to package it? No thanks.

Bleach bomb any equipment that came in contact with that beer, personally I would target ~400ppm. Soak for 5-10 minutes in the bleach solution and then rinse everything 3-4 times with hot water.
